Celebrating Pride Featuring Our Favorite Couples
Highlighting the most memorable queer weddings
It is June and that means only one thing: Pride month where we take the extra time to celebrate our LGBTQIA+ community! Although I myself am not queer, I do what I can to give the queer community a safe place and make it very clear that I am supportive of them and their choice to love whoever they want. And to celebrate Pride, I’m sharing some of past queer couples who had very memorable weddings!
First, we have Anne and Kristen’s art nouveau inspired wedding
with the ceremony at St Mark’s in Altadena—which sadly burned down due to the Eaton fire—and the reception was held at Los Angeles Athletic Club. Their venue space is in the heart of Downtown LA and features intricate, art deco styled architecture combined with a vintage library aesthetics. I had the privilege of working with them for their custom wedding invitations and day of stationery and signage.
Right away, I knew we were meant to work together when Anne said, “We want our invitations to be art nouveau inspired, NOT art deco.” And I knew exactly what they meant. Side note: art nouveau is actually one of my favorite art movements. The whimsical, overly detailed style gets me every time.
For their custom invitations, we illustrated an art nouveau styled frame featuring their home state flowers: Colorado columbines for Anne and California poppies for Kristen. Their wedding letterpress invitation suite features the invitation card, details card, and rsvp card + envelope secured in a forest green pocket and wrapped with a sage velvet ribbon and belly tag featuring a custom monogram.
With the invitation design established, we took the same style into their day of stationery and signage which included programs, custom menus, seating chart, bar signs, and instructional signs. To avoid having the signage clash with the detailed venue space, we opt to design the day of stationery and signage on the cleaner and simpler side.

Arthur and EJ’s Santa Barbara’s wedding at Rosewood Miramar was an absolute dream.
They were such a delight to work with. Their wedding vision was modern with a touch of a timeless black and white feel. Their florals reflected this with white and green arrangements with pops of orange, peaches, and yellows. For the day of stationery, I designed the menus, seating chart, table numbers, and bar signs. We kept the designs minimal and modern by choosing fonts that had unique characteristics.

Thomas and Derek’s beautiful Santa Barbara wedding was held at the Ritz Carlton.
This one was a little different for me, as I did not design their wedding invitations or day of stationery. Instead, I was asked to engrave for their wedding. Being fans of Moscow mules, Thomas and Derek decided to have a statement seating chart and have each guest’s name hand engraved on a copper mug. Once I finished engraving the mugs, I handed them off the couple… and then waited until the wedding day when Jane, their planner, sent me images of the mugs on display. And I was absolutely in awe to see how it all came together.

Bonus shoutouts! These two features are not real weddings but editorials created with a team of wedding vendors.
Tucked in the valley of Los Angeles, Criss and Jessica had a bold, boho, groovy theme wedding
complete with vibrant shades of oranges, bell sleeves, bell bottoms, and custom painted tambourines.
For the custom invitation suite, I designed bubble shaped florals inspired by the era and completed the suite with a custom made pocket. The invitation suite included an invitation card with custom lettering for the couple’s, a bitchin RSVP card + envelope, a details card printed on orange cardstock, and an envelope liner with swirls and groovy flowers. With the invitation design completed, I hand painted the tambourines to fit within the vibe. And the talented florist, Yen of Ezai Weddings, completed the tambourines by turning them into a bouquet piece.

To wrap up this list, we have the very colorful and bold summer palette editorial for Orange County couple Patrick and Shuan.
This editorial took place at the Ebell of Santa Ana. The table setting was adorned with floral arrangements featuring orange, yellow, and pink flowers. Each place setting had custom hot pink acrylic chargers with each guest name handwritten in calligraphy. The individual menus consisted of two layers: a bright yellow arch menu for the dinner menu and on top, a white cardstock for the drink menu.
The custom invitation suite includes an invitation card, a details card, an RSVP card + envelope, and an outer envelope with an envelope liner. The invitation card is on hot pink cardstock and includes wavy line graphics to compliment the arch shapes of the details and RSVP cards. Continuing the bright color palette, the RSVP card is on a bright yellow cardstock and a custom cut arch shape. We decided to have the details card on white cardstock to bring in a neutral accent. The final detail was adding a tropical florals illustration envelope liner for the orange envelope. The envelope was sealed with a hot pink or orange wax seal with a peacock design and topped with glitter.
One of the best parts of editorials and getting to showcase other details. And for this editorial, I wanted to showcase my bottle painting and engraving skills. For the two fragrances, each one was hand engraved with each groom’s name and includes hand painted abstract floral designs that complemented the wedding aesthetics. For the third painted piece: I custom painted a champagne bottle and added an illustration of the Ebell of Santa Ana on the front. The champagne bottle pop was sure one of a kind with the custom artwork.
