5 Unique Seating Chart Ideas to Impress Your Wedding Guests

Seating charts are one of the best ways to personalize your wedding. And some reasons to create a statement:

Great way to welcome guests into the reception space

No boring signs!

Adds a cohesive design piece that ties in with the rest of the event signage and stationery

So to kick off this list, here are our favorite unique seating charts

1. Calligraphy Mirror Seating Charts

Calligraphy mirror seating charts are a sure way to wow your guests and has consistently been a client favorite over the years! The handwritten calligraphy element adds such a special, unique touch. Mirror seating charts can have all of the guests listed on one mirror or on multiple mirrors. There are so many ways to make calligraphy mirror seating charts special just for your wedding.

We offer both calligraphy and block lettering for guest names. Calligraphy adds an elegant, timeless style. Whereas, block lettering is perfect for a modern, less traditional wedding. Whichever vibe your wedding is, you can’t go wrong with a beautiful handlettered mirror seating chart!

Check out our current inventory of mirrors available to rent. You are more than welcome to supply us with the mirror to write on. The extraordinarily huge mirror is available to rent through Above the Top Events in Irvine, California.

2. Acrylic Seating Charts

Up next, we have acrylic seating charts. Acrylic is a very sturdy option but sensitive to scratches. However, when executed correctly and carefully cared for, it makes a for a wonderful and versatile seating chart. Acrylic is available in many colors—popular color include clear, frosted, white, and black—various sizes, and thickness. Not only are there so many types of acrylic to choose from, there are many ways to display the signs. Our favorite ways include large bases and hanging.

Now that we’ve covered the material, when it comes to lettering, there are also many options! Being a calligrapher, my most asked for lettering options is calligraphy or block lettering. But if a client wants the exact fonts that we used on their day of stationery, we have the option of adding 3d lettering or painted letters. 3d acrylic lettering offers a very clean look. Each letter is cut out of acrylic and then glued onto the acrylic, leaving a 3d layer of letters. Painted letters is another process that allows for an exact font match by etching the letters and applying paint over to help the names pop. The fun part with lettering on acrylic is that we can do one or a combo of these process. Whichever you choose, there are endless ways to personalize it to your event aesthetics.

3. Wood Boards

Another versatile option for seating chart is using wood! Wood provides an extremely sturdy and weighted option. The great thing with wood is the weight and there is usually no need to worry about signs toppling over. It is a great option for outdoor weddings in high wind areas such as beaches or mountains. Much like acrylic, wood offers a variety of ways to make it unique to your event. Our favorite way to display wood seating charts is having it attached to a grid (or multiple grids) or have them free standing with a large base.

Dress up the grid with custom florals. In photo florals designed by the talented team at Fleurish OC.

4. Foam Core

Foam core is always a popular option as it tends to be the most affordable and we have some tricks up our sleeves to give them an elevated look. Gone are the days of single foam core print with a seating chart on an easel! No boring seating charts here! We love to elevate foam core prints by making multi-panel seating charts, displaying them on a grid or base (but there are height restrictions since we don’t want it to get droopy), various sizes and shapes. Since foam core are printed pieces, we are not limited with the type of art work or colors we can use.

The team over at Foxtail Florals elevated the seating chart by filling the bottom of the seating chart with beautiful tropical florals and hiding the grid’s support legs.

5. Tiles

Tile place cards have always been a popular request. But a tile seating chart?! Now this one takes the cake for such a fun and unique idea. These large terra cotta tile pieces were perfect for this Santa Barbara wedding with Mediterranean vibes at the Ritz-Carlton Bacara. To add more fun, the display against this white fireplace was perfect!

The great thing about seating charts is that they can be as grand or small as you want. They are such a wonderful way to add personality to your event! Your unique love story deserves its own unique seating chart.
